I had been thinking about building a deck for a long time, and I’m really glad I ended up choosing XP Decking company. The whole experience was honestly way easier than I expected. From the beginning, the team was friendly, easy to talk to, and clearly knew what they were doing. One thing I really appreciated was how straightforward they were. They gave me a clear quote upfront, explained everything, and there were no surprise costs later on. They also stuck to the timeline they promised, which doesn’t always happen with projects like this. The quality of the work is amazing. The deck looks great and feels super solid. You can tell they paid attention to all the little details, not just rushed to finish the job. It actually turned out even better than I had imagined. They even checked in after everything was done to make sure I was happy, which I thought was a really nice touch. Overall, I’d definitely recommend them if you’re thinking about building a deck. It was a really good experience start to finish.
City of Vaughan Deck Permits - Know the Rules Before You Build
Vaughan’s permit thresholds are different from other Ontario cities and worth knowing upfront. An uncovered deck under 18.6 sq m (about 200 sq ft) and no higher than 0.6 m above grade may not need a building permit – but it still has to meet City of Vaughan Zoning By-law 001-2021.
The moment your deck is attached to your home, exceeds that size, or sits higher than 0.6 m, a building permit from City of Vaughan Building Standards is required. Some projects also need a grading permit from the Development Engineering Department before we can break ground.
Properties near TRCA conservation lands – including areas around the Humber River corridor in Kleinburg and parts of Woodbridge – may need Toronto and Region Conservation Authority sign-off as well. We identify all of this during your site visit and handle every application for you.
